What the LinkedIn Insight Tag does for B2B marketers, how partner IDs work, and how the audit detects it.
The LinkedIn Insight Tag is LinkedIn's advertising and analytics tracker for B2B marketing: a lightweight JavaScript snippet that enables conversion tracking, website retargeting, and — its signature feature — website demographics, which shows advertisers the job titles, companies, and industries of their site visitors (aggregated, via LinkedIn's data). If a site runs LinkedIn Ads, the Insight Tag is almost certainly installed.
Each tag carries a numeric partner ID (the _linkedin_partner_id value) tying it to a LinkedIn ad account. The audit extracts the ID so you can verify which account the site reports to — useful when agencies change and old tags linger.
Unlike broad-reach pixels, the Insight Tag exists for account-based and B2B marketing: retargeting website visitors on LinkedIn, measuring which campaigns drive demo requests or content downloads, and learning the firmographics of anonymous traffic. Its presence on a site is a strong signal the company invests in B2B demand generation — which is why it shows up in competitive-intelligence audits alongside the tech stack.
